Day in the Life Photo Contest

Sometimes a photo is needed to truly capture the magic happening inside a Fisher House. It is difficult to describe the camaraderie and bonds formed, so we reached out to our Fisher House managers to help showcase what happens inside their walls. The results and updates are exciting and humbling to see.

Day in the Life Photo Contest

Each year, Fisher House Foundation sponsors a “Day in the Life” photo contest to help depict what happens within a Fisher House. Our managers and photographers work together to share a story or moment in time for some of the families we are privileged to serve. Take a look at all the submissions we were proud to receive here!

Korean War Veteran, the Frozen Chosen: Fidel Gomez

Through our Day in the Life photo contest, we learned about Fidel Gomez, who was pictured holding up his basic training photo from 1949. Fidel is receiving treatment at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio. While in the hospital, Fidel was greeted by Fisher House manager Erik Zielinski, and Fidel began sharing stories of his service. Fidel is a rare member of the Frozen Chosin: a totle referring to the group of Marines from Fox Company who were given the near-impossible order of holding off the Chinese Army and defending a passage out of the Chosin Reservoir. Orlando Fisher House Update

Almost done! Work is still in progress, but the 16-suite Fisher House in Orlando should be completed in early 2018. This Fisher House, located at the VA, sits directly across from the hospital. There are currently several Fisher Houses in the design or construction phase, ever-increasing our ability to serve our service members, veterans and their families. For a complete list of future Fisher Houses, visit our website.
